Real Life vs The Expectation

Real Life vs The Expectation

When it comes to keeping up with your home, there’s often a picture in our heads of how it’s supposed to look.

Clean.

Organized.

Always under control.

We tell ourselves we should be able to stay on top of everything.

That if we just tried a little harder…

had a little more time…

or did things the “right” way…

it would all come together.

But real life doesn’t work like that.

There are days where everything flows.

And there are days where just getting through what’s in front of you is enough.

And yet, we still hold ourselves to the same expectation every single day.

That we should keep up.

That things should stay clean once we’ve done them.

That we should feel motivated before we start.

That we should be able to do everything all at once.

But when those expectations don’t match reality…

That’s where the frustration comes in.

Because it starts to feel like we’re falling behind.

When really… we’re just living.

Homes don’t stay clean because they’re meant to be lived in.

They’re used.

Moved through.

Reset over and over again.

And motivation?

It doesn’t always show up when we want it to.

Most of the time, it’s not about waiting to feel ready.

It’s about starting before you are.

And that expectation of doing everything all at once…

That’s usually what makes it feel impossible to begin.

Because when something feels too big,

we avoid it.

Not because we don’t care…

but because it feels like too much.

And even when everything is clean…

That doesn’t always mean it feels peaceful.

Because if your mind is still running…

your space will feel that too.

And underneath all of it is something we don’t always say out loud

We compare.

To what we see.

To what we think it should look like.

To what we believe everyone else has figured out.

But what we don’t see is the constant resetting.

The in-between moments.

The reality behind the expectation.

And when you start to separate those two things…

It changes everything.

Because you stop trying to live up to something unrealistic…

and start working with what your life actually looks like.

Not perfectly.

Not all at once.

But in a way that makes sense for you 🖤
